Blocked drains can create a variety of horrible problems, some of which may go unseen, which is why it's important to resolve any blocked drains as they occur, and prevent them as much as possible.

Here's a list of some of the ramifications we've seen, as a result of blocked drains:

  • Unsanitary surroundings

  • Structural problems

  • Internal and external overflows

  • Destroyed carpet and timber flooring

  • Trashed furniture (especially couches, etc.)

  • Drains that can't be repaired (dig ups)

  • Water damaged appliances

Here's some ways to tell that your drains may be blocked:

  • A bubbling or blocked toilet

  • Waste-water appearing in sinks, tubs, or showers.

  • Your floor wastes are filling up and perhaps spilling over

  • Your bathroom fixtures are draining slowly. or not at all

  • You're experiencing bad smells, where there shouldn't be bad smells.

  • Your drains are making strange noises

  • You notice dried toilet paper near your overflow gully's

If you suspect you may have a blocked drain, try the following:

  1. Remove visible debris from the surface

  2. Plunge the drain

  3. Try drain cleaners - look out for harsh chemicals and environmental/health hazards before purchasing

  4. Pour a bucket of boiling water down the drain - beware of burns and backsplash

  5. Mix 1/2 cup of baking soda with 1/2 cup of vinegar and pour down the drain, covering the opening if possible. Let it sit for 15-30 minutes. Use hot water to flush away the dissolved material.
